'Solidity of Shadows' by Clarence John Laughlin
Laughlin, a photographer, poet, writer and bibliophile from New Orleans is considered the first American Surrealist.  His body of work, over 17,000 images, is one of the largest and most original contributions to American art of the 20th Century.

The 60 prints on exhibit highlight the central theme that unites his vast output - his Third World of Photography, which advanced the medium past documentation and the purism championed by Weston's f-64 school.  Laughlin was the subject of numerous museum exhibitions during his lifetime and is represented in most important museum collections here and abroad including MOMA and The Metropolitan Museum.   'The Bat' by Clarence John Laughlin

He has been recently celebrated with a feature length documentary (soon to be released) by award winning filmmaker Michael Murphy and a biography by A.J. Meek, Clarence John Laughlin - Prophet Without Honor, University Press of Mississippi.

The Show will run from October 11th - November 21st, 2008

Center for Visual Communication is located in Wynwood at 541 NW 27th Street between Margulies Collection and MOCA Goldman.
